On June 5, Fier-Play brought together athletes, institutions, federations, associations, and partners committed to this cause for a morning of discussions focused on discrimination in sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the discussions, several key insights emerged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The testimonials from the athletes in attendance underscored the importance of role models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seeing people who fully embrace their identity while pursuing their athletic careers helps combat isolation and offers hope to future generations. The discussions highlighted the importance of an intersectional approach. LGBTIQ+phobia, sexism, racism, ableism, and social discrimination can overlap and create additional barriers to participating in sports. Sports clubs are often the first place where children socialize after school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Coaches, volunteers, and leaders therefore have a special responsibility to create welcoming and respectful environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Training and raising awareness among them is a major challenge that we can address through the Fier-Play network<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n Discussions have highlighted the importance of an intersectional approach.
